Ferguson Leads Ohio Valley to Opening Game Win

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Danny Ferguson hit a two-run go-ahead single in the bottom of the fifth inning to vault the Ohio Valley Regional Champions over New England 2-1 in the opening game of pool play in the 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series on Saturday afternoon at Diethrick Park.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ohio Valley's (Youngstown, Ohio) Danny Marker was brought in to pinch hit and doubled down the right field line. New England (Greenwich, Ct.) pitcher Jonathan Mills then walked the next two batters to load the bases. One batter later, Ferguson singled up the middle to knock in two runs and give Ohio Valley the lead.

New England got their lone run in the top of the second inning when Sam Fraser scored on an error.

Chris Maze took the win on the mound for Ohio Valley going 5.0 innings and striking out four.

Mills took the loss for New England but contributed two hits at the plate. Ohio Valley returns to action on Sunday at 5:30 against Western New York and New England plays again on Monday at 5:30, also against Western New York.
