In an inning where Southwest (Bryant, Ark.) sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs, it was Tyler Nelson’s RBI single that scored Blain Jackson to give the Southwest a 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh. Marcus Wilson cushioned the lead to 9-7 with his third hit of the day following Nelson.

After scoring two more runs in the inning, Southwest held off a bottom of the seventh two-run rally by the Pacific Northwest (Thurston County, Wash.) to seal their second win of the tournament.

The Southwest was holding on to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Jens Omdal of the Pacific Northwest hit a full-count bases loaded two-out three-run triple down the right field line to put his team ahead 6-4.

Wilson continued his tear in the World Series by going 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.

The Southwest team will next play New England on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

The Pacific Northwest returns to action against Ohio Valley on Monday at noon.
