Pacific Southwest Comes From Behind to Beat Southeast 8-7

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The Pacific Southwest Region (1-0) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally from a 5-2 deficit to overcome the Southeast Region (1-1) 8-7 in an American Division pool play contest at Diethrick Park in Jamestown on Sunday afternoon.

Javier Tamayo singled in a run to start the scoring in the sixth for the Pacific Southwest. The next batter Ashton Edior dropped down a bunt which was fielded by the Southeast pitcher Gray Dixon, who was charged with an error after hitting Edior on the base path with his throw. Edior then collided with the first baseman and two more runs scored on the play, which tied the game 5-5.

The Pacific Southwest took the lead when Tamayo crossed the plate when a Ben McKendall grounder resulted in an error being charged to the second baseman. The Pacific Southwest team held off a two-run rally in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory. Tamayo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, finished his day off by ranging far to his left at second base to make the game-ending out.
 
Greenville opened the games scoring in the third inning by capitalizing on three Pacific Southwest errors to take a 3-0 lead and C.J. Ebron singled in two runs in the top of the fifth to push Southeast’s lead to 5-2. 

The Pacific Southwest will play the Midwest Plains team on Monday at 2:30 p.m and the Southeast team will also next play the Midwest Plains on Tuesday at noon.
