Southwest Rally’s for Third Comeback Victory of Series

Box score

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – For the third time in as many games, the Southwest Regional Champions from Bryant, Arkansas (3-0) came from behind in the seventh inning to win a 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series pool play game at Diethrick Park in Jamestown. This time the Southwest used two runs in the top of the last inning to knock off the New England Region Champions (1-2) 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Trailing 5-4 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, pinch-hitter Trent Rivers doubled down the left field line. Hayden Daniel then singled to knock in Rivers to tie the game at 5-5. Tyler Nelson then doubled to short left field and Daniel advanced to third. New England attempted to intentionally walk the next hitter, Marcus Wilson, but the pitch sailed over the catchers head and Daniel came in to score and give Southwest the lead at 6-5.

Ricky Okazaki reached base on a walk with two outs in the bottom of the inning for New England but Southwest pitcher Zach Cambron got the next batter to fly out to seal the game.

Daniel finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to go along with the game-winning run and Cameron Price had two hits as well.

Southwest has clinched a spot in the single elimination bracket and will be either the number one or two seed out of the National Division. Each team has one more pool play game. New England will play Pacific Northwest on Wednesday at noon and the Southwest will return to action against Ohio Valley on 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Ron Tellefsen Player’s of the Game were Daniel and Okazaki.
