Middle Atlantic Rallys in Seventh For Win

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Bryan Torres hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to propel Middle Atlantic (3-0) over the Pacific Southwest (1-2) 7-6 in an American Division pool play contest in the 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y on Tuesday evening.

Middle Atlantic is now 3-0 and has clinched the top seed in the American Division and will receive a bye into the semifinals of the single elimination tournament.

Middle Atlantic trailed in the top of the seventh 6-5 when Adrian Castano led off for the Middle Atlantic with a single. He was moved to third by two more singles and then Connor Doyle hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Castano and tie the game 6-6. Torres then singled into left field to score Gonzalez and give College Point the lead.

Joseph Morel was brought in to pitch at the bottom of the seventh for College Point, N.Y. and after retiring the first two batters, gave up a double to deep center by Skylar Blocker, but then struck out the next batter to earn the save and seal the win.

Middle Atlantic led 5-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning but the all-stars from Westchester, California put together a rally. After getting one run across in the inning, Ben McKendall came up to the plate and hit a three-run double down the right field line to give Westchester the lead at 6-5.

Castano picked up the win on the mound for College Point and was also 3-for-4 with three RBI. Tito Ovalle and Diego Gonzalez each contributed two hits in the winning effort.

Middle Atlantic will play their final pool play game against the Southeast at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the Pacific Southwest will play their final pool play game against the Host Team at 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.
