Southwest Finishes Pool Play at 4-0

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The Southwest Regional Champions from Bryant Arkansas (4-0) wrapped up their pool play schedule undefeated and will advance as the top seed in the National Division after beating Ohio Valley (2-2) in a pool play contest at the 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon. with a score of 11-9.

The Southwest will receive a bye in the six-team single elimination bracket and will play their next game at 5:30 on Friday. Ohio Valley will also advance as a number three seed in the National Division and will play the number two seed Midwest Plains of the American Division in a quarterfinal game at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play the Southwest.

Ohio Valley (Youngstown, Ohio) was leading Bryant 8-5 going into the bottom of the third, but as the team from Arkansas had already done three times this World Series, they came back to win the game. Bryant plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game 9-8.

Youngstown tied the game at 9-9 in the top of the fifth but Bryant’s Evan Castleberry bunted in Cameron Price in what proved to be the game-winning run and gave Bryant the lead at 10-9.

Bryant got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Marcus Wilson hit a solo home run to left.

Riley Hall was brought in to the game in the top of the seventh to close the game for Bryant and earn the save.

Wilson was the winning pitcher for Bryant, pitching 4.2 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs, and scattering out seven hits. Teammate Blain Jackson had four RBI for Bryant out of the nine spot in the lineup.

Danny Ferguson was Youngstown’s top hitter, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
