The game was a back and forth affair that saw each team leaving everything out on the field.
Bryant opened the game with two runs in the top of the first, but College Point responded right back by getting five runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by doubles by both Joseph Morel and Nicanor Luna.
The 5-2 College Point lead stood until the top of the fifth when Bryant got two runs just before Bryant’s sixth inning explosion. Bryant erupted for seven runs in inning to come from behind and take the lead on College Point. Evan Castleberry had a pinch-hit single to plate Cameron Price and tie the game at 5-5. Tyler Nelson then singled to right to plate two more runners and give Bryant a 7-5 advantage. Marcus Wilson added a RBI-triple to the attack in the frame and Bryant ended up crossing seven runners in the inning to take an 11-5 edge.
College Point responded right back in the bottom of the inning, getting six runs of their own on six hits to tie the game back up at 11-11. The highlight of the inning was Nicanor Luna’s ground rule double that scored two runners. Richard Diaz had the game-tying hit for College Point, after coming in to pinch hit and slicing a two-run single to right field.
In the top of the seventh Tyler Nelson singled in Josh Davis to give Arkansas the lead again at 12-11. Pitcher Bryan Torres was then able to get Wilson to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Joseph Morel led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and then stole second base. Morel eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 12-12. After College Point had the bases loaded with runners, the next two batters hit fielder’s choices to the pitcher who made the force out at home to get the first two outs and then Luna was picked off of the base paths to end the inning and send the game to extras.
Tyler Green provided solid offense for Bryant, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Wilson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI-triple. Nelson was 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Wilson was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and finishing the series batting .591 (13-for-22) with 12 runs scored, seven RBI, eight stolen bases, two doubles, two triples and a home run while slugging 1.000.
Wilson was joined by teammate Hayden Daniel on the all-tournament team. Nelson, Richards and Zach Cambron were named to the all-defensive team.
College Point was paced by Nicanor Luna who was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Diego Gonzalez who was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. Joseph Morel 3-for-6 with three runs scored.
College Point’s Morel, Gonzalez and Castano were named to the all-tournament team for College Point.
The two teams combined for 25 runs on 30 hits in the offensive slugfest.
The Ron Tellefsen Player’s of the Game were Green and Luna.
