Westchester's McKendall Leads Team to Home Run Derby Title

Jamestown, N.Y. -- Ben McKendall of the Pacific Southwest Regional Champions Westchester, Cali. elevated his home run derby team to victory by belting three home runs during the 2008 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series Home Run Derby at Bergman Park on Friday afternoon.

Each of the 10 World Series teams sent two players to the home run derby. Of those 20 players, there were five four-man teams. Each player had eight swings to hit as many home runs as he could. The winning four-man team was determined by whichever team hit the most combined home runs.

McKendall was the third member of the fifth and final team to swing. At the time of McKendall's appearance, his team had two home runs and was trailing Teams 1, 3, and 4, who each had hit three total home runs apiece. McKendall quickly erased all doubts as to which team would be taking home the title as he slugged three home runs and put Team 5 into first place with five total home runs. Ryan Brumbaugh of the Ohio Valley Regional Champions knocked one more out of the park after McKendall to cushion Team 5's total home run tally to six.

McKendall and the Westchester, Cali. team will play their first game on Sunday, August 17 at 2:30 p.m. against the Southeast Regional Champions from Greenville, North Carolina.
