JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -  When the Jamestown Jammers take the field tonight against the Tri-City ValleyCats it will mark the ten-year anniversary of the renaming of College Stadium to Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.

On August 9th 1997, on the eve of the 16-18 Babe Ruth World Series, Russ Diethrick was inducted into the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame. On the same night it was also announced that the stadium would be renamed after him in his honor.  Diethrick has been a key contributor and supporter of professional and youth baseball in the city of Jamestown since the 1940s and has been fondly referred to as the cities’ “Mr. Baseball.”

After ten years of being a Hall of Famer, and having a ballpark named after him, Russ has continued to be an active part of baseball in Jamestown.  He has been the Host President of four Babe Ruth World Series held in Jamestown, including the first ever 12 and Under Softball World Series in 1999.  He is an International Board of Director for Babe Ruth League, Inc. Diethrick will also be the Host President for the 2008 13-Year-Old World Series held in Jamestown in August of 2008.

To be a part of history tonight, come down to the Jammers game at 7:05 at Diethrick Park.  For more information on Russ Diethrick’s involvement in area baseball, and the upcoming World Series visit www.jamestownworldseries.com.
